DIY - beautiful ikebana with 9 calla lilies

Would you like a stylish flower arrangement that requires no maintenance and always looks beautiful? With nine artificial calla lilies, you can easily create a modern ikebana that fits perfectly into a minimalist or warm interior. In this blog, we will show you step by step how to make your own ikebana with these artificial flowers.

The advantages of artificial calla lilies

Calla lilies are naturally sleek and elegant. Their lines and shapes make them ideal for ikebana. With artificial flowers, you can also create a floral arrangement that requires no water or maintenance, a piece that you can rearrange endlessly and enjoy for years to come.

What do you need for this ikebana?

  • RHODÉ nine artificial calla lilies 70 cm
  • A stylish bowl or vase (we used ...)
  • Pliers
  • Flower frog (or floral foam)

Step 1: Cut the calla lilies to size

To create a playful composition with exciting shapes and lines, we work with different heights. The tall calla lilies provide elegant vertical lines, the medium-height calla lilies provide balance, and the short or curved calla lilies add excitement to the whole. Feel free to vary the height; we cut our calla lilies to size as follows:

  • One calla lily: 70 cm
  • Three calla lilies: 60 cm
  • Three calla lilies: 50 cm
  • Two calla lilies: 35 cm

Step 2: create a sturdy base

To create a sturdy base for our ikebana, we have attached the flower frog to the decorative bowl with double-sided tape. A sturdy base is important to ensure that our composition of calla lilies does not fall over. Depending on the vase or bowl you are using, you can choose to weigh it down for more stability.

Step 3: determine the composition

Now that we have a solid base for our ikebana and we have cut the calla lilies to the right length, we can start creating the composition. If you find it difficult to come up with your own composition, you can carefully recreate the flower arrangement from the image above. Would you rather get started with your own creation? Then decide on the first line and start by placing one calla lily. Continue expanding your composition until you have used all the calla lilies.

Step 4: styling your interior

An ikebana with nine calla lilies looks best in a quiet spot. We chose to place the flower arrangement on a sideboard in front of a plain wall. This really shows off the graceful lines and beautifully shaped calyxes.

Done! You have created your first ikebana.
